Cosmetic dentistry ‘improves smiles’

Cosmetic dentistry 'improves smiles'Losing a tooth does not have to mean having a gappy smile, as one article has advised readers to consider cosmetic dentistry for a natural look.

Those who suffer from tooth loss can have dental bridges to hide the gaps and give the appearance of a complete set of teeth, the Press Distribution article suggested.

For people who would like straighter teeth, the article recommended looking into clear braces such as Invisalign options, which can be fitted by an orthodontist to realign teeth.

Broken or worn teeth could be disguised by crowns or dental veneers that cover the damage and help prevent further problems as well as giving a more attractive appearance, the editorial claimed.

People considering treatment to correct their dental imperfections were advised to speak with a professional and see what forms of procedures would be available to them.

Writing for the Woodinville Weekly, Dr Majed Moawad recently encouraged individuals who want to realign their teeth to opt for invisalign braces rather than using traditional techniques.ADNFCR-2621-ID-19861756-ADNFCR

Space maintainers ‘can help children’s teeth’

Space maintainers 'can help children's teeth'Children who lose a baby tooth before the adult one comes through may need cosmetic dentistry, according to one expert.

Writing for the Stabroek News, Dr Kiran Koora explained that children should be assessed by a dentist to see if they need to have a space maintainer fitted to guide their teeth.

“Crooked and/or crowded teeth in turn can lead to difficulty in chewing and accumulation of food particles,” the specialist explained.

The paedodontist stated that the spacer could be either fixed or removable dependant on the course of treatment and is made up of steel wires and rings that are fitted to the remaining teeth around the exposed region.

Dr Koora recommended wearing the appliance to prevent other teeth from shifting and disturbing the area before the permanent replacement comes through.

The specialist recently advised people to seek emergency dentistry as soon as possible if they break their teeth, as dentists may be able to replace the damaged section.ADNFCR-2621-ID-19861745-ADNFCR

Invisalign braces ‘could help straighten teeth’

Invisalign braces are an excellent way to straighten teeth.

Anyone worried about having crooked teeth or a lopsided smile might like to consider Invisalign braces to help resolve their issues.
Dr Beth Snyder, a dentist from the US, has said the treatment will help realign teeth over a number of months, by gradually applying pressure and moving them into a straighter position.

Cases can often be completed in 12 to 18 months of use and the device has the added advantage of being removable. Therefore, when people wish to eat, brush their teeth or go out on the town, they do not have to wear it.

Meanwhile, figures from the Hospital Group recently showed that more men are becoming interested in the benefits offered by Invisalign braces, with a 700 per cent rise in the number of Invisalign procedures carried out between 2007 and 2009 in the UK.

During this period, the number of women using the product also rose by 52 per cent.

There are many options available to those looking for teeth braces.

There are a number of options open to individuals who may need braces and they have been discussed by dental health magazine WorlDental.

It reported that people with misaligned teeth often suffer from pain in the jaw, an inability to chew properly, headaches and a lack of confidence, but orthodontic braces could help to resolve many of these issues.

The publication stated that braces work by “applying continued pressure over a usually long period of time to slowly move the teeth to a specific location”.

Indeed, the range of braces currently available include those which are worn all the time – such as face bow headgear – to those that are more discrete, such as Invisalign braces.

Elsewhere, figures from the Hospital Group recently revealed that the number of men seeking braces over the last two years has grown by more than 700 per cent.

The report showed that this was not the only treatment that has gained in popularity over recent months, with teeth whitening and the use of dental implants also becoming more widely used procedures during 2009.

More men are having treatments involving Invisalign braces.

More men are becoming interested in having Invisalign brace treatments to straighten their teeth, it has been revealed.

Figures from the Hospital Group have shown there was a 700 per cent rise in the number of Invisalign procedures carried out between 2007 and 2009 in the UK, with men being the group seeing the greatest increase in procedures.

Indeed, the number of women also rose by 52 per cent during the course of the study.

Teeth whitening was also found to be a boom procedure over the last 12 months, with male teeth whitening treatments rising by 150 per cent during the course of the year.

Meanwhile, Olympic medallist Rebecca Romero has announced she used Invisalign braces to achieve a more aesthetically pleasing smile.

She said: “I am so happy with the results, I feel happier with the appearance of my teeth and I am more confident about smiling now.”

£75k grant awarded by Align Technology.

The maker of Invisalign braces Align Technology has announced the award of a $75,000 (£49,100) grant to researchers in the US as part of its Clear Aligner Research Award Programme.

The recipients of the funding are Dr Maria Orellana, assistant professor at the University of California, San Francisco School of Dentistry, and Dr Robyn Silberstein, clinical associate professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry.

“We were pleased with the level of academic interest in clear aligner therapy research and we will continue to sponsor the programme for 2011,” said Align’s vice-president of clinical technology Dr Eric Kuo.

Meanwhile, the company also recently announced that it is to remove its prerequisite that dentists must demonstrate they are able to offer its products to at least ten patients over the course of a year in order to qualify for the use of Invisalign braces.

Dentists will now be able to offer this service however many patients they treat each year.

Children ‘could benefit from braces’

Children could benefit from having braces fitted.

Many children could benefit from having braces fitted and this, in turn, could help to boost their confidence as an adult.

Dental Plans reported that children should have their teeth looked at when they are relatively young in order to head-off any problems that might develop for them as they get older.

Indeed, having braces could be the best option for many kids, as having wonky or misaligned teeth can not only prove painful as they get older, but it could adversely impact on their self esteem.

Dr Homayoun Aminyar of New York commented: “There is no need for someone to be unhappy with their teeth, when there are many different orthodontic techniques in order for it to be corrected.”

Elsewhere, president of the American Academy of Paediatric Dentistry Dr William Berlocher recently claimed that children should receive a helping hand from their parents when they are learning to brush their teeth.

Dentist campaigns against jaw surgery for children

Children should not undergo jaw surgery, it has been argued.

A former dentist is continuing to campaign against jaw surgery for children.

81-year-old John Mew, a former dental professional, has said he will continue to lobby the industry to stop resorting to unnecessary surgery for young people with jaw problems.

He claimed that operations to fix a problem known as an under-bite are unnecessary and can put children at risk of complications.

Mr Mew stated the surgery has no guarantee of success and can often leave patients with a permanent disfigurement. And at the same time, he noted there are less invasive procedures that can be carried out which will often result in the same, if not better, results for sufferers.

Elsewhere, the Leaf Chronicle recently reported Clarksvill dentist Dr Bill Wall has pioneered the use of new equipment that could help reduce pain for those undergoing emergency or cosmetic dentistry treatments.

He is using stereolithographic-imaging models to replace the old plaster of paris casts for making bridges and prosthetics and this is a less invasive and more accurate treatment.

Braces have helped make Cheryl Cole’s smile the most sought after in the UK.

Invisalign braces are becoming all the rage as more Brits say they would like to emulate the smile of Cheryl Cole than any other celebrity, it has been revealed.

According to a recent poll by the Daily Express, Ms Cole’s teeth are the most popular among people looking to have cosmetic dentistry treatments and one of the best ways to achieve a similar result is to use Invisalign braces.

Nadim Majid, a Preston-based cosmetic dentist, said: “This revolutionary process in tooth braces in Preston can straighten teeth from as little as six weeks to 16 weeks.”

Elsewhere, Dental Office Magazine recently reported anyone who owns an iPhone and would like to see what effect teeth whitening treatment might have on them can now download a new app to do just that.

The Whitening Simulator, which is now available at the iTunes App Store, lets people get a sneak peek of the results of teeth whitening without ever setting foot in a dentist’s office.

The Scotsman reported Lubiju Dental Surgery is offering a new procedure which is aimed at helping adults who are self-conscious about their smiles.

Dentist Dr Biju Krishnan, who set up Lubiju along with Dr Lubino do Rego, said: “There are thousands of adults in Scotland who are ashamed of their teeth and cover their mouths whenever they laugh or smile.”

As a result, the surgery is offering Invisalign braces for patients looking to give their smile its sparkle back.

Elsewhere, Dr Spiker Davis from Houston Cosmetic Dentistry recently announced he has invested more than $100,000 (£62,000) in digital imaging equipment to allow him to better diagnose and treat his patients.

He stated the technology takes digital images of a person’s body and is not distorted by radiation, thereby giving a much clearer image to work from.
