Dentists ‘will be able to advise on suitability of Invisalign braces’

14-03-2011
Mon

See a dentist to find out if Invisalign braces are for you.People who want straight teeth should speak to a dentist to see if Invisalign braces will be suitable for them.

This is the recommendation of Minneapolis orthodontist Dr Trudy Bonvino, who explained that a professional will be able to check out the state of a person's smile to see if they will be a suitable candidate for the treatment.

It will also be possible to see if there is any crowding, overbite or underbite present that may affect the way the invisible braces work.

"Knowing precisely what needs to be corrected is another step toward determining whether Invisalign is the best method of correcting it," Dr Bonvine commented.

The expert suggested that this kind of brace may be particularly suitable for those who have demanding schedules, as they can be fitted in fewer appointments.

This comes after Baystate Dental told WWLP.com earlier this month that Invisalign braces will work best if they are left in the mouth for the recommended 21 to 22 hours per day.

Rugby’s Chris Ashton ‘has got invisible braces’

11-03-2011
Fri

England rugby international Chris Ashton is wearing invisible braces.Rugby player Chris Ashton has revealed that he is having cosmetic dentistry work done.

The English rugby union player wrote in an article for the Daily Mail that he used to get the mickey taken out of him because of his smile, which wasn't quite straight.

Consequently, he decided to get invisible braces to fix it.

"I've got a brace, but it's quite subtle, so you can't really see it," Ashton commenting, adding that he thinks it is "a bit vain for a northern bloke".

However, he is not the only one, as the sportsman revealed that his teammate Ben Foden now wants cosmetic dentistry, while Delon Armitage has already had some.

Another celebrity who recently admitted to wearing invisible braces was Justin Bieber, while Myleene Klass has now completed her treatment with them.

They are becoming more popular in the UK in general, perhaps as a result of this celebrity endorsement.

Could Emma Roberts be a candidate for invisible braces?

10-03-2011
Thu

: Could Emma Roberts be a future candidate for invisible braces? Emma Roberts, the niece of Julia Roberts, could be a candidate for invisible braces in future.

In an interview with Women's Health magazine, she drew attention to her "really crooked teeth", which she said she doesn't mind too much at the moment because they "give me character".

However, the Scream 4 performer added: "We Robertses have too many teeth for our mouths."

This could cause problems in the future when her wisdom teeth erupt, as it may act to push the other teeth further out of alignment.

Should this happen, Roberts' dentist may suggest invisible braces to realign them again.

Justin Bieber recently admitted in an interview with Rolling Stone magazine that he has been wearing invisible braces.

He explained that he had to have some teeth removed that were pointing inwards, but this created a gap that is now being closed with the aligners. He wears them every day apart from when he is eating and brushing.

Invisalign braces ‘will allow you to maintain a normal lifestyle’

09-03-2011
Wed

Invisalign braces should not be inconvenient.Opting for Invisalign braces will allow people to maintain the lifestyle they had before cosmetic dentistry treatment – as long as patients wear them properly.

This is the advice of Baystate Dental, which told WWLP.com that this kind of brace can be worn by anyone from their teens onwards.

"The advantage of this [is] you take it off for eating, brushing and flossing," a spokesperson commented.

However, it is vital that Invisalign braces are worn for around 22 hours a day to work properly, the source advised.

"You will get nice straight results," he added, explaining that most treatments are finished within 12 months.

Justin Fenner, writing for the Into the Gloss section of Styleite, recently criticised model Karlie Kloss for only wearing her Invisalign braces at night while she is asleep.

"The idea behind wearing these things is to keep them in as long as possible so that the trays gradually move your teeth," he pointed out.

Invisalign braces may have prevented writer’s pain

04-03-2011
Fri

Invisalign braces should not create the pain that tightening metal braces does. Invisalign braces could prevent patients who need cosmetic dentistry from having to go through the pain that one writer was subjected to as a youth.

In an article for the Sydney Morning Herald, Jessica Irvine said she had misaligned teeth while she was still at school and had to have the metal braces that were being used by oral healthcare professionals at the time.

She said the thoughts of her regular trips to the orthodontist to have them tightened still make her wince even many years later.

"It hurts even now. After a few days my teeth would eventually settle into their new place, only to earn yet another trip to the orthodontist for tightening," Ms Irvine commented.

Modern-day dental patients can now benefit from Invisalign and other invisible braces instead of being limited to metal varieties.

Earlier this week, an unnamed journalist from the Daily Mail said she recently completed her treatment with them and has been thrilled with the results.

Writer praises Invisalign braces

Could Invisalign braces help you like they helped one writer?Invisalign braces have been praised by one writer, who recently completed her treatment with them.

The unnamed Daily Mail journalist said she was unhappy with her misalign smile by her mid-twenties, something which had come about as a result of her wisdom teeth crowding her mouth.

After hearing stars such as Katherine Heigl and Cheryl Cole mention Invisalign braces, she decided to try them herself and said she has been surprised and delighted with the results.

The writer had 12 aligners made to fit her mouth, changing them every two weeks to gently push her teeth into a new position. Although she admitted that she did find them uncomfortable at first, the source said this soon passed and she did not notice them after a while.

"Six months on and at the end of the last brace … I am thrilled with the results. My teeth are completely straight and I finally have the smile I always dreamed of," the journalist concluded.

Myleene Klass is another celebrity who recently revealed she has had Invisalign braces, although she has now finished her treatment.

Wearing braces ‘is best way to correct protruding teeth’

28-02-2011
Mon

Wearing braces 'is best way to correct protruding teeth'A dental expert has said braces represent the best method of straightening teeth, even though people may not be keen on wearing them at first.

Dr Nigel Harradine, chairman of the British Orthodontic Society, told the Press Association that those with protruding upper teeth are more likely to sustain damage in an accident or fall.

To avoid the need for emergency dentistry at a later date, having braces fitted can be a sensible option.

In addition, Dr Harradine claimed the majority of people get over their initial dislike of the devices once they realise the benefits.

"Almost everyone who has braces gets on well with them and is glad for the rest of their life that they did," he explained.

The expert was responding to a query from a mother whose ten-year-old daughter has protruding teeth but is reluctant to wear braces.

Louise Chidlow of the British Dental Health Foundation recently urged parents to make the act of brushing teeth fun for children, as it will encourage them to adopt good dental care habits.ADNFCR-2621-ID-800432568-ADNFCR

Dental treatment can be life-changing, says expert

25-02-2011

More adults are turning to braces as awareness of the benefits increases, according to an orthodontist.A dental expert has claimed treatments such as braces can have "life-altering" results for adult patients.

Dr Brendan Cooney was speaking after research from the American Association of Orthodontics revealed that roughly 25 per cent of all orthodontic patients treated in the last 20 years have been adults, the Albany Times Union reports.

While the majority of people choose to have braces fitted as a form of cosmetic dentistry, recent studies have suggested a growing awareness of the health benefits associated with straighter teeth.

"Braces make life-altering changes and adults are very motivated to make those changes happen, as quickly as possible," Dr Cooney told the newspaper.

Invisalign treatment, which requires people to wear a set of invisible braces for between 20 and 22 hours a day, has become increasingly popular among adults.

Patients are given a new set of aligners every two weeks or so, with the full treatment process typically lasting for about 12 months.ADNFCR-2621-ID-800430868-ADNFCR

Invisalign braces ‘better for oral hygiene’

25-02-2011
Fri

Invisalign braces are more hygienic than traditional teeth aligners, it has been claimed.People with Invisalign products do not have to worry about any food getting stuck in their braces.

This is according to World Dental, which claimed invisible braces of this kind have several advantages over traditional dental aligners.

As well as the obvious cosmetic benefits of the device, Invisalign can offer patients improved oral hygiene because the braces are removable.

This means they can be taken out before eating, thereby reducing the risk of food items becoming stuck and causing infections in the mouth.

The website pointed out that Invisalign braces are "not for everyone" and will be unsuitable for young children in the majority of cases, as the jaw and teeth must already be well developed for the device to be effective.

"However, they offer a great option for many adults and teens," it added.

Criminal may be regretting not having invisible braces

17-02-2011
Thu

Criminal may be regretting not having invisible bracesInvisible braces have long been known to correct the appearance of crooked or misaligned teeth – but in one case, a criminal may have avoided identification if he had received cosmetic treatment.

Sanele Mkhize, Thabiso Hadebe and Malusi Zulu are facing charges of attempted murder, armed robbery, pointing a firearm and discharging a firearm and ammunition, following an attempted hijacking in Chatsworth, South Africa, on January 14th 2010.

Six people were shot at or injured in the incident, including 12-year-old Altaf Ally, who is now paralysed after being shot in the head.

At the trial, a neighbour of the child and his family, Shaun Naidoo, looked at the teeth of three of the accused and identified two based on their distinctive dental features.

The news source reported that Mr Naidoo identified Mr Mkhize as the person who discharged the weapon, saying that his "overlapping front teeth and 'sickening smile' had jogged his memory".

Earlier this month, it was reported that a 53-year-old driver who crashed and abandoned a stolen car was tracked down when his false teeth were left at the scene – something which could have been avoided by having dental implants.
