Should Oscar winner get dental treatment?

02-03-2012
Fri

Most Hollywood actors are only too happy to take advantage of the star treatment when they finally hit the big time, getting everything from porcelain veneers to facelifts, but recent Oscar winner Jean Dujardin is flying the flag for the natural look and there are those among the Hollywood elite that think he should invest in a set of flawless veneers.

Stylist to the stars, Phillip Bloch, spoke to the Huffington Post and commented that Dujardin had ‘fallen a couple hundred thousand dollars short’ of the glamorous ‘million-dollar’ Hollywood smile, he even went as far as comparing the actors teeth to those of trouble starlet Lindsay Lohan, before she had them cleaned up.

Dentist to the rich and famous Debra Glassman was in agreement, saying that she would ‘definitely recommend in-office whitening, Invisalign to align his teeth, then porcelain veneers.’

But even without perfect pearly whites, the French actor doesn’t seem to be struggling to make a name for himself; he scooped the best actor Oscar for his role in silent film The Artist and was mobbed by press and fans as he landed in Paris following the triumph. The 39-year-old revealed that he enjoyed making the film in America, but said that he would prefer to make ‘talkies’ in his native France, ‘I’m not an American actor.’ He said, ‘I’m a French actor. I’ll continue in France. If I could make another silent movie in America, I’d like to!’

TOWIE personality shows off new veneers

The cast members of hit reality show The Only Way Is Essex are recognisable by their neon-orange tans, hairs extensions, cosmetic enhancements, and incredibly white veneers, and it seems Joey Essex is not one to be left out of the action. The twenty-one-year-old had his teeth done before Christmas, but has only recently stepped out to show the tabloids the results of his dental work, and he might be duly worried that he’s overdone it, if the reaction to his bright new smile is anything to go by.

Joey flashed is blinding gnashers at the paparazzi during a night out at the Aura Club in London, and then later attempted to divert attention from his pearly whites by leaving his Brentwood home the next morning in a red all-in-one with his name printed in big letters on the back. Unfortunately, even this fashion faux-pas wasn’t enough to disguise his enhanced smile; let’s hope he wasn’t going for the natural look.

Joey spoke to Now magazine in December, saying he planned on getting veneers fitted in time for the TOWIE Christmas special, ‘so they’ll be bright and white’. He splashed out more than £4,000 on dental improvements, but wasn’t keen on the idea of having his teeth reshaped, he ‘I’m not having them cut down or anything – that would hurt way too much.’ He then thanked The Hospital Group via Twitter, saying ‘Thanks to @hospitalgroupuk for my new Reem smile!’

TOWIE celebrity gets a new smile for Christmas

TV star Joey Essex – well-known for his stint in hit reality show The Only Way Is Essex – has decided to join the rest of the cast of the over-the-top show by investing in a set of dental veneers worth around £4,300. The ‘Essex look’ is based on all things manufactured, so there’s no way the 21-year-old wanted to be left out for the TOWIE Christmas special.

‘I’m getting my teeth done.’ He admitted last week, adding ‘I’m not having them cut down or anything – that would hurt way too much.’ Joey went on to say that he was thinking about popping into the new salon belonging to fellow reality star Amy Childs, but confessed that getting lots of treatment wasn’t really his style, ‘Botox is too girly for me, and I hate pedicures, I might get a massage,’ he said.

Last night, the Essex celebrity was pictured outside favourite cast hang out Mahiki, with a suspiciously altered smile, which he later confirmed was the result of dental surgery, saying on Twitter ‘Thanks to @hospitalgroupuk for my new Reem smile!’ (Reem being Essex slang for gorgeous).

However, the news might be difficult for his TOWIE colleague Arg to swallow, as he was himself considering the procedure, but balked at the thought of spending thousands of pounds on his teeth. When it came to it, the reality star decided not to go for the ‘big teeth, big lips’ appearance and kept it natural, whilst admitting that he might change his mind in the future.

X Factor judge in new advertising row

X Factor panellist Tulisa Contostavlos is courting controversy yet again over her brazen promoting antics, and this time it’s her new smile raising concerns among media watchdogs. The singer was fitted with a set of dental veneers in March, and has recently taken to Twitter to shamelessly advertise the services of dentist Dr David Bloom, who runs a practice in Watford, Hertfordshire.

Seemingly unperturbed by the similar furore that surrounded her when she was accused of plugging her perfume on the live X Factor shows, Tulisa spoke to the Radio Times about her veneers, admitting that she was getting a lot of free merchandise and services, even though she has the money to afford them. However, it’s her social networking that could really get her into trouble with the Office of Fair Trading, the 23-year-old publicised her treatment via Twitter back in March, mentioning the dental firm and dentist no less than four times, and the clinic even has a before and after picture of the X Factor judge on their website, with a quote from her saying ‘Thanks guys, I love them.’

The veneers are said to have cost £12,000, but rumour has it that no money changed hands, something that the OFT aren’t going to be happy with; celebrities aren’t allowed to endorse goods or services without making it clear how they were paid for. In another tweet several weeks after debuting the new look, Tulisa let everyone know how happy she was with her veneers, saying ‘Every1 keeps asking me about my new teeth & who did them, so here goes @drdavidbloom @senovadental, their [they’re] amazing so happy.’

Duchess of Cambridge doesn’t want a perfect smile

28-11-2011
Mon

Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge, has had orthodontic treatment to give her teeth the appearance of ‘harmonious asymmetry’, it has been revealed. The 29-year-old was anxious to avoid the over-stylised look of the Hollywood smile, and went to London—based French dentist Didier Fillion, to request a more natural look.

Associate of Dr Fillion, Bernard Touati, told The Times magazine that Kate’s teeth look so good because they are not perfectly straight, which is what often makes celebrity smiles look artificial. He said that Dr Fillion had done some ‘little micro-rotations on Kate Middleton, so that it looks like a natural, healthy smile.’

Instead of just adding veneers over the top, the process involves using braces to subtly change the positioning of the teeth, or re-shaping them to make them look natural – even adding veneers with small chips in them. Dr Fillion said; ‘Teeth that look like piano keys are not good, so we try to give back some details, maybe a space we don’t close, or a shorter incisor. Tom Cruise? Too perfect for me. After my treatment, most of my patients do not need veneers.’

When questioned over his treatment of the Duchess, Dr Fillion refused to comment, saying ‘I can’t say anything. I am sorry. I can’t confirm or deny it.’ According to his colleague Dr Touati, Kate could have paid around £3,000 for the treatment.

Helena Bonham Carter 'stole teeth from Harry Potter set'Individuals contemplating teeth whitening treatment in a bid to improve their appearance could be interested in recent rumours concerning Helena Bonham Carter.

According to Showbiz Spy, the British actress confessed to stealing the prosthetic teeth she wore to play her character in the Harry Potter films.

"They won't fit anybody else's mouth anyway so I thought nobody would mind. I'll miss being a witch but at least with the teeth I can play at home," she added.

Bonham Carter, who is the long-term partner of eccentric director Tim Burton, first donned the crooked fixtures during filming for the fifth instalment of the movies.

Her Death Eater character is well-known among Potter fans as one of the most evil witches in the wizarding world, having killed a number of major characters.

The final film in the series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part Two, is opening in cinemas on Friday (July 15th).ADNFCR-2621-ID-800619601-ADNFCR

Dentist struck off after fitting dental veneers on children

Dentist struck off after fitting dental veneers on childrenA dentist in Birmingham has been struck off the medical register after fitting dental veneers on children in order to make money.

Stuart Elliot Johnstone was found guilty of dishonestly carrying out treatment on young people between April 2005 and June 2007, Dentistry.co.uk reports.

The General Dental Council (GDC) heard that Mr Johnstone had carried out the cosmetic dentistry on 11 patients for financial gain, with one aged eight years old.

In some cases patients were given dental veneers despite decaying teeth, the court heard, with one woman's life being put at risk due to the development of an infection.

The GDC said [to the dentist]: "You were in a position of trust towards your patients and the public. You abused that trust.

"For all these reasons, the committee places this case high in the scale of dishonesty."

Dental veneers are a popular type of cosmetic dental treatment, during which a trained practitioner fits laminates to the front of existing teeth to improve a person's smile. ADNFCR-2621-ID-800557142-ADNFCR

Jane Fonda confesses to cosmetic dentistryJane Fonda has admitted spending several thousand dollars on cosmetic dentistry as part of her bid to preserve her good looks.

The 73-year-old actress said in an interview with the Daily Mail that she paid $55,000 (£34,100) for a new set of teeth.

Fonda, who has won two Oscars during her screen career, suggested that having money is one of the secrets to looking good in old age.

"It was the teeth or a new car – and I opted for the teeth," she remarked, adding: "It costs a lot to look the way I do."

A healthy sex life has also helped, she remarked, but noted part of success is due to her genes, which she said "cost nothing".

Fonda recently showed off her cosmetic dentistry during the Cannes Film Festival, where she made an appearance to promote her new film Peace, Love & Misunderstanding, which is due out later this year.ADNFCR-2621-ID-800554000-ADNFCR

Dental veneers ‘are the perfect solution to cosmetic flaws’

Dental veneers 'are the perfect solution to cosmetic flaws'People who are lacking in confidence due to cosmetic flaws with their teeth could consider having dental veneers fitted.

Customised to fit the teeth of the individual perfectly, the procedure offers the perfect smile with as little as two appointments with a practitioner.

Dental veneers can hide a number of the smile's imperfections including discolouration or gaps between the teeth, Dentistry.co.uk reports.

The procedure is also useful to resolve the problem of crooked teeth and misalignment, which may reduce people's confidence.

A number of celebrities have chosen to have dental veneers fitted in a bid to straighten their teeth and perfect their Hollywood smiles.

Cheryl Cole, who had a brace on her teeth for two years after winning Popstars: The Rivals in 2002, used the procedure to improve the appearance of her teeth.

The singer has also admitted to wearing an invisalign brace during the night to ensure the effects of the treatment are long lasting.

David Bowie, Victoria Beckham and Simon Cowell are among the other celebrities with dental veneersADNFCR-2621-ID-800547964-ADNFCR
