The Corrs singer told she needs ‘maintenance’

17-01-2012
Tue

Irish singer, Sharon Corr, has come under fire as she prepares for an appearance on new talent show The Voice; beautician and social climber Danielle Meagher, has said that the 41-year-old TV mentor should consider minor cosmetic surgery to keep herself looking young and fresh-faced. Could it be a coincidence that 31-year-old Danielle, who is often referred to as Dr Botox among her clients, is currently filming the reality show Southside Housewives? Perhaps the socialite is looking to garner some publicity for the project.

‘Gosh,’ Danielle commented on her Facebook page, ‘Sharon Corr in great shape body-wise, but… she has lost volume in her face and will certainly need some Juvederm (dermal filler) to replace lost volume and also Botox for her forehead.’

Ms Meagher later removed the post after some backlash from fans of The Voice, and admitted that she shouldn’t have put it up, but didn’t seem anxious to avoid putting her foot in it further, adding ‘I was surprised that the panel of The Voice hadn’t had a little bit more ‘maintenance’ work.’ She then went on to compare the judges to those on The X Factor, whom she felt were better ‘maintained.’ It shouldn’t come as a shock to readers that ‘Dr Botox’ is well-known among her fellow ‘housewives’, and runs her own clinic that provides lip-fillers and Botox for Irelands up-coming socialites and aspiring TV stars.

Former rugby star opens cosmetic clinic

St Helens winger Anthony Stewart has swapped the rugby pitch for rather more serene surroundings, by opening up his own cosmetic clinic in Billinge. The Cosmetic Body Clinic offers a range of non-surgical treatments, such as teeth whitening, Botox, semi-permanent make-up and natural skin peels, with discounted prices starting at £69 for tooth whitening.

The 32-year-old sportsman scored 56 dries during his rugby career and was a regular for The Saints from 1996 to 2004; he also represented Lancashire and played for Ireland. Anthony reasoned that rugby careers can often be fleeting, and he decided to turn his hand to the cosmetic industry, rather than facing early retirement. He was anxious to point out that the prices at The Cosmetic Body Clinic were affordable for customers from all walks of life, saying ‘Treatments… such as laser hair removal are quite expensive. The machines we have are more advanced and powerful, and are far cheaper.’

Referring to his former team mates, Anthony also added that they had been ‘supportive’ and some were taking advantage of the perks of knowing the boss, ‘A few have been in for a hot stone massage, ‘ he said, ‘and their wives have had their teeth whitened.’ The rugby star is no stranger to pampering himself now he’s off the field either, he said; ‘I have had a few things done myself, such as the teeth whitening, and my wife Dawn is trying to get me to have a skin peel, which I am thinking of doing, but I won’t use the slimming machine.’

Cheryl Cole has the perfect smile

She hasn’t had a lot to smile about in the past few months, but Cheryl Cole can feel better knowing that when she does flash those pearly whites, she’ll be the envy of the show-biz world. According to a study carried out by Manchester Metropolitan University, the former X-Factor judge has all the ingredients needed for a perfect smile.

Dr David Holmes revealed that it wasn’t just to do with the colour and shape of the teeth, the shape of the face and smile ‘technique’ were also contributing factors. ‘Cheryl Cole is a great example of the perfect smile.’ He said ‘It’s no coincidence that she has been such a success and become the nation’s sweetheart, her smile helps her come over as genuine, attractive, and engaging.’

The perfect smile is thought to be a combination of face shape, lip and tooth health, and confidence. Dr Holmes added ‘A major factor is how well you can produce a full ‘arch-bow’ smile; a wide, deep crescent revealing teeth but not gums, and reaching up to the eyes.’

The research also revealed that smiling with confidence could have considerable effect on our social standing, even help with our love lives. Dr Holmes noted ‘Smiling not only makes us feel good, it is also fundamental to human attachment, helps strengthen relationships and bonds people together.’

Cosmetic dentistry 'is not just for models'A healthcare professional has suggested there are all kinds of people who are currently deciding to get cosmetic dentistry.

Speaking to the Times of India, cosmetic dentist Dr Sunita Vhatkar pointed out that having a nice smile helps to boost self-esteem and often makes people more confident.

She suggested that having discoloured or damaged teeth can tarnish a person’s image, while correcting such issues is capable of making an individual look younger.

“Today, everyone is very conscious about their looks. Both the young and old, men and women go for a complete smile makeover,” Dr Vhatkar was quoted as saying.

Implantologist Dr Shreyank Patel told the news provider that such operations may previously have been dominated by actors and models, but ordinary professionals are now doing the same.

Last week, Perfect Wedding magazine claimed brides-to-be will often have cosmetic dentistry procedures carried out, since it allows them to look their best on the big day.ADNFCR-2621-ID-800066177-ADNFCR

Nail biting ‘damages teeth’

11-06-2010
Fri

Nail biting 'damages teeth'Damaged enamel and chipped, weakened teeth are some of the side effects of regular nail biting, according to one dental specialist.

Writing in the Huffington Post, dentist Dr Thomas Connelly stated that although not everyone will experience problems, he often observes patients displaying evidence of harm caused by the habit.

Dr Connelly explained that due to the number of clients he treats who want cosmetic dentistry to fix their smile, he has plenty of evidence to draw the conclusion that there is a direct link between tooth damage and chewing fingernails.

“I’ve seen too much first-hand to ignore this, in my mind – and professional opinion – it’s a fact that nail biting can hurt your teeth,” he said.

Meanwhile, industry professionals have reported a rise in the number of individuals seeking treatment for problems such as sensitive teeth and worn away enamel caused by teeth grinding, according to Medical News Today.

Patients ‘anxious over anaesthesia’

Anaesthesia in the dentist’s office causes anxiety for many. Many cosmetic dentistry patients get anxious by the thought of anaesthesia, a new survey has shown. Up to 85 per cent of people feel worried about the use of anaesthesia, according to a poll carried out by the University of Salford.  It showed that the top concerns were waking up during surgery, not waking up after the treatment and simply the general feeling of unease in the run-up to the procedure. Mark Mitchell, senior lecturer in the Faculty of Health and Social Care at the University of Salford, said: “Our survey underlines the importance of patients receiving planned and timely information about anaesthesia, prior to the day of surgery, in order to limit their dental anxiety.” Elsewhere, research carried out by Dr William H Frey and his colleagues at Regions Hospital in St Paul, Minnesota and published in the American Chemical Society’s bi-monthly journal Molecular Pharmaceutics showed the use of a nasal spray or drops in place of injections could be equally effective for anaesthetising patients who are undergoing treatments.

Many people over 40 who are looking for work are having their teeth whitened. Many older jobseekers are turning to cosmetic dentistry to improve their prospects of finding employment, it has been revealed.  The Grand Forks Herald reported that the number of men and women over 40 and looking for work who come in for treatments has increased as a result of the economic downturn and this is a trend that looks set to continue. Dr Susan Mathison of Catalyst Medical Centre in Fargo told the publication: “I think that people in their 40s and 50s are feeling like they’re competing for positions with younger potential job candidates, so looking their best is very important to them.” She added that many feel having a fresh look will help them secure work. Elsewhere, Jim Arnold of Valpolife.com recently said that many individuals often begin to think about brightening up their smile using teeth whitening treatments at this time of year, as the summer months are often the time when people want to look their best.

Smiles ‘can be enhanced’ with cosmetic dentistry

21-05-2010
Fri

Cosmetic dentistry can have a positive impact on a person’s smile.

Anyone worried about the appearance of their smile has been reassured that there are treatments available that can help them solve this problem.

Daily Breaking News reported that cosmetic dentistry has come on in leaps and bounds in recent years and there is now a procedure to help even the most difficult of issues.

For example, missing teeth can be replaced using permanent dental implants, meaning people no longer have to rely on dentures, while those with extremely stained and discoloured teeth – be it through smoking or drinking large amounts of coffee – can have their smile brightened using the latest teeth whitening techniques.

Meanwhile, this month is National Smile Month in the UK and, as such, Dr Nigel Carter, chief executive of the British Dental Health Foundation, has said that Brits should be doing all they can to keep their teeth healthy and clean.

Indeed, in order to further this message, the organisation has launched its new Teeth4Life campaign.

Celebrities ‘make cosmetic dentistry more acceptable’

Many people are finding cosmetic surgery more acceptable.

Brits are becoming less adverse to cosmetic dentistry and plastic surgery procedures due to the influence of celebrity culture, it has been stated.

A spokesperson from the Transform Cosmetic Surgery Group said the impact of celebrities being open about the procedures they have had carried out in the past has meant that many people now also crave them in order to attain the appearance of their favourite stars.

She commented: “Whether it’s Simon Cowell confessing to having regular Botox, or Lord Alan Sugar admitting to having his eye bags removed, men, it seems, are no longer as self-conscious or embarrassed.”

According to a recent survey carried out by MyFaceMyBody.com, nearly three-quarters of men (72 per cent) and nine out of ten (93 per cent) females said it is important for a man to look after his appearance.

Indeed, when asked who influenced men most regarding their appearance, 46 per cent said their girlfriend or spouse, but 19 per cent pointed to celebrities.
