Apprentice star considers Botox

30-03-2012
Fri

Lord Sugar’s right-hand man Nick Hewer is famous for raising an eyebrow or two at the antics of some of The Apprentice contestants, but the sixty-eight year old has revealed that he is thinking of getting Botox injections to keep his energetic brows in check. Nick, who is also the new host of Countdown, has said that his animated expressions could be a thing of the past if he follows in Lord Sugar’s footsteps and undergoes cosmetic treatment.

Two episodes into the eighth series of the BBC show, Nick’s famous frown has already made more than one appearance, and he has joked that the only way to stop it is to freeze the muscles using facial injections. ‘I don’t realise when I’m doing the frown.’ He admitted, ‘I’ve got a very mobile face and I think the cameramen pick up on it. I’m thinking I might have Botox to make it impossible to raise my eyebrows.’

The business tycoon was also at pains to point out that there were no rehearsals on The Apprentice, and his expressions were not deliberate; ‘It’s not like I practice it in the mirror. No one makes me raise my eyebrows on cue,’ He said, adding, ‘I am what I am. Nobody would have the nerve to ask me to do something to suit the cameras and there are no retakes.’

So far in The Apprentice, two of team Sterling have been given the chop after failing to meet Lord Sugar’s expectations in the field of business.

Kim Kardashian spotted at Botox salon in LA

29-03-2012
Thu

Reality star Kim Kardashian is no stranger to controversy, and the 31-year-old always makes sure she looks good when she’s caught in the spotlight; however, she was recently spotted leaving an LA Botox salon looking less than her best. The second-eldest daughter of clan Kardashian was photographed leaving the clinic with red blotchy skin, shortly before an appearance at the Valentino party, where she wowed crowds in a black and white ensemble.

It’s still unclear whether Kim underwent Botox treatment, but it has been suggested that it was merely a flare-up of her on-going skin condition, psoriasis; however, the salon she was seen leaving does specialise in Botox therapy. The TV celebrity is very image conscious, spending a lot of time in the public eye at fashion events and Hollywood premieres, and she has admitted to dabbling in cosmetic enhancements in the past. The treatment ended badly for poor Kim, as she suffered a rare allergic reaction to the toxin, which left her skin swollen and bruised. ‘I’m never doing this again…’ Kim told her family, adding ‘at least not until I’m forty.’

Although she’s not shy about her use of Botox, Kim is adamant that she has not gone under the knife to keep her good looks intact, telling nightline last year that she was ‘totally not against plastic surgery… [Botox] is the only thing that I’ve done.’

Courteney Cox talks Botox

20-03-2012
Tue

It seems like only yesterday that fresh-faced Courteney Cox shot to worldwide fame as Friends character Monica Geller, and the 47-year-old is still trying to hold onto her glory days, by indulging in various anti-aging treatments. The divorced mother-of-one is looking as youthful as ever, despite a punishing schedule of acting, producing and caring for daughter Coco, and she credits her beauty regime with keeping her complexion flawless.

‘I am an absolute guinea pig for anything what will keep me feeling good’, Courteney told The Telegraph in an interview, ‘If someone says, ‘you should try apple stem cells’, guess who’ll be putting them on her face the next day.’ She also admits that aging is difficult, especially in LA, and says that as she’s nearing fifty, she is willing to try just about anything to keep herself looking young, ‘Let’s be clear; looking youthful is something I do a lot of research on. Man, I could use some Botox right now.’ she jokes.

The actress also talks about using Botox to prepare for acting roles, but says that she doesn’t feel the need for it when she is working behind the camera, and goes on to talk about her battle against the notoriously ageist Hollywood scene, adding ‘I’m just hoping [current TV show] Cougar Town will be around for a while, otherwise, oh my God, I’ll have to start all over.’

Lulu changes her tune about Botox

19-03-2012
Mon

Despite the fact she owes her youthful complexion to the anti-aging drug, singer Lulu has vowed to lay off the Botox injections as she nears sixty, blaming it for the fact that parts of her face became ‘immovable.’

‘I used to have Botox and I thought it was fantastic at first, but it quickly fades,’ Lulu told Good Housekeeping magazine, claiming that ‘it doesn’t actually help you to look young.’ She seems to have overlooked the current trend for celebrities relying on similar products to an unhealthy degree; Botox and the like can’t work miracles, but when used appropriately, they aim to get rid of small lines and wrinkles that make the face appear aged.

Although she’s not keen on getting any more injections, the Shout singer hasn’t ruled out cosmetic surgery in the future, saying ‘as with everything, it’s a case of going to the best person and having it done in moderation.’ She also commented that she is always aware of her appearance, saying ‘I never go out looking like a bag lady and I even put on lip gloss to walk the dogs. I’ll be trying to look my best until I’m eighty and beyond, God willing.’ Lulu maintained that she had her exercise regime and healthy diet to thank for keeping her looking young, as well as her positive mental attitude, ‘To me, feeling good about yourself as you get older is all about your attitude,’ she said, ‘if you think you’re old, you’ll feel old.’

Ashley Judd hits back at filler claims

16-03-2012
Fri

Representatives for Ashley Judd have come forward to shoot down claims that the actress has recently overdone it with a series of facial injections. In an interview with E! News, a spokesperson maintained that Judd has been ‘battling an on-going, serious sinus infection and flu,’ which is to blame for her puffy appearance.

Dr Vincent Chan, an ear, nose and throat specialist, joined in the debate, suggesting that the only thing that could cause such a drastic change was prolonged use of steroids to deal with sinus infection. Dr Chan said that it was not common practice for steroids to be prescribed for more than two weeks in such cases, and that use for flu-like diseases ‘[doesn’t] cause that sort of problem.’

Plastic surgeon Dr Anthony Youn was sceptical about the time frame, but admitted that her ‘pillowy’ complexion could be the result of steroid use, if she has been taking them for some time. ‘If she says she started taking [steroids] five days ago and that’s why she’s puffy, that doesn’t sound likely,’ he said, ‘My feeling is that obviously it looks like she has a pillow face, not a steroid face, but her story definitely has some potential credibility to it.’

Judd, however, is sticking to her story, tweeting followers that ‘Steroids r dramatic. My clothes don’t fit right, hard on a girl’s self esteem.’ She also went on to talk about her 2nd round of steroids, as she battles to overcome a three-week illness.

Has Ashley Judd had dermal injections?

14-03-2012
Wed

Hollywood actress Ashley Judd was at the centre of plastic surgery rumours this week as she made an appearance on Canadian TV to promote her new show, Missing. The 43-year-old looked swollen and ‘pillowy’ when she arrived for her interview on The Marilyn Denis Show in Toronto, a far cry from the perfectly chiselled, fresh-faced look she built her career on.

Twitter was quickly inundated with posts as followers questioned Ms Judd’s appearance, one asking ‘What happened to Ashley Judd’s face?’ and another commenting that ‘It looks weirdly puffy but she doesn’t appear to have gained weight.’ There has been no comment from the actress or her representatives regarding the rumours, but the ‘pillowy’ look around her cheeks and jaw line seems to suggest some over-indulgence in dermal fillers, which are designed to replenish moisture levels in the skin, making it look fuller and more youthful. She also looked bloated and red when she arrived in Toronto prior to the interview, sparking reports that she had turned to cosmetic enhancement to fight the signs of aging.

In recent weeks, celebrities like Madonna and Lindsay Lohan have been pictured in a similar condition – advertising the negative results of over-doing facial injections. When used in moderation, treatments like Botox and dermal fillers can disguise lines and wrinkles, as well as giving some shape back to the cheeks, however, it seems that celebrities don’t always know when enough is enough.

‘Real Housewife’ admits to Botox use

09-03-2012
Fri

If you are familiar with the TV programme The Real Housewives of Beverley Hills, you should know that the reality stars are anything but ‘real’ and now one of them is openly admitting that she has had some work done to fight the signs of aging.

Socialite Brandi Glanville told Shape magazine that she was used to getting attention, both positive and negative, from the media and her fellow Beverley Hills housewives; ‘Having grown up modelling, I’m very self-aware of my physical appearance’, she told the magazine, before admitting that it was hard getting older whilst living your life in the public eye, ‘especially in this town, where everyone is perfect!’ she added. The Beverley Hills area of LA has long been associated with outward beauty, and Brandi conceded that the constant pressure of having to look beautiful is something that makes her feel ‘insecure.’

Later on in the interview, the 39-year-old revealed that she has dabbled in Botox injections and facial fillers, but warned others that they shouldn’t overdo it; ‘I think everyone should do what makes them feel good, but remember; less is more’.  Brandi went on to say that it used to hurt her when people ‘said horrible things, like I’m ‘plastic’ and I’m a bad mom [sic]’ but that over the years she has learnt to disregard negative press; ‘I know what they say isn’t true,’ she said, ‘so I’ve learned to not take it to heart.’

Has Megan Fox had cosmetic surgery?

07-03-2012
Wed

Transformers actress Megan Fox is in the headlines again after making a red-carpet appearance at the premier of her new film ‘Friends With Kids’, and as usual the media are focusing more on her ever-changing appearance, rather than her actual performance. Celebitchy.com was posting questions about Megan’s face within hours of the event, the blog said it wasn’t immediately clear what treatments the starlet had received, ‘other than lots of botox [sic] (which she’s denied before) and possible cheek implants.’

The author went on to say that Megan has looked ‘tweaked and cat-faced’ since last year, and added that they were ‘hoping that she’d go for a more natural look as part of her recent PR transformation.’

It seems Ms Fox is not a fan of natural beauty, and she has had to defend herself against rumours of Botox use in the past, despite the fact that she’s only in her early twenties. Fellow blogger DivineCaroline was in agreement, throwing socialites Lindsay Lohan and Jessica Biel into the mix, for good measure; ‘[celebrities] are looking pillow-faced and almost bursting with fillers like Restylane and Juvederm, not to mention sporting the lineless Botoxed foreheads of twenty-five-year-olds.’ Most surgeons would agree that this is not a good look for people so young; when used in moderation, the results can still be natural-looking and fresh, instead of swollen and ‘pillowy’.

Cate Blanchett ‘frightened’ of cosmetic surgery

06-03-2012
Tue

Australian actress Cate Blanchett has admitted that she is afraid to go under the knife, or even receive facial injections for fear of the long-term effects. Although most people would probably think that the 42-year-old doesn’t need to worry about her looks just yet, she spoke to fashionetc.com about her opinions on the current trend for cosmetic enhancements.

Although the Lord of the Rings star commented that anti-aging treatments were ‘not so great’, she maintained that she was not in judgement of those who felt they would like some work doing, ‘I’m not sitting on a soapbox telling women what they should and shouldn’t do, I just know what works for me.’ Ms Blanchett also added that she would ‘just be too frightened about what it means long-term.’

Instead of turning to procedures like Botox or dermal fillers, Cate prefers to rely on a less-is-more approach to skin care, performing regular cleansing treatments and oxygen facials. ‘We do so much to ourselves,’ she said, ‘I don’t know whether [from] boredom or what, it’s like; do less! … We’re always looking for the new thing; I’m very old-fashioned.’ She went on to comment on young people who have a tendency to overdo the cosmetic look, saying ‘Women in their twenties doing this stuff, in the end all you see is the work. It doesn’t fill me with admiration, it fills me with pity.’

Superdrug offers Botox in its new Pro Skin clinics

05-03-2012
Mon

Superdrug is perhaps most famous for its beauty products and pharmaceutical services, and the company is hoping to build on that reputation by offering their customers in-store treatments, such as facial injections, microdermabrasion and laser hair removal. Not only is the high street store offering on-the-spot convenience, they also promise much lower prices than the customer would typically find at a medical establishment.

The very first Pro Skin clinic opened in London at the beginning of March, advertising hair removal for £49, skin peels for £69 and Botox or dermal fillers for £149 – just over half the price of the same treatment at a top London surgery. Superdrug representative Lisa Pellizzon said that they were able to offer the enhancements at such low prices because they have slashed the mark-up, but there are those who are questioning the practice, given that most of the treatments where being administered by beauticians, not medical professionals – with the exception of Botox injections and facial fillers. There is already some concern in the industry regarding the regulation of such procedures, and most reputable practitioners would recommend visiting a certified clinic for cosmetic treatments, rather than a high street store.

In-store clinics is the latest step in Superdrug’s substantial diversification in the market place, which includes over 120 Brow Bars across the country, four Medi-Spa clinics and four Nail Bars. This move is not only designed to cater to the growing demand for beauty treatments, but also to bring customers back onto the high street, by providing an accessible and affordable service.
