bad breathPoor oral health could lead to bad breath.

Developing bad breath could be one of the first signs that a person has poor oral health, it has been revealed.

According to the Coloradoan, there is no substitute for maintaining a good oral health routine, as this can reduce the levels of bacteria that build up in the mouth over time.

The publication noted: “Dental disease gets more complicated when it’s allowed to persist because inflamed gums start to lose their attachment to the teeth and gum recession occurs.”

Bad breath can be a sign that bacteria has multiplied dramatically, as failing to regularly brush means food debris can be left in the mouth and this provides a perfect area for germs to grow.

Elsewhere, DNA Health recently reported people should look to keep themselves well hydrated in order to boost their oral health, as failing to drink enough water can lead to a lack of saliva.

Without saliva, the publication claimed, tooth enamel cannot carry out its remineralisation as effectively and can become weaker over time.

Dentistry.co.uk reported a team led by Dr Dong Wang, associate professor of pharmaceutical science in the at the University of Nebraska Medical Center’s College of Pharmacy, has developed a mouthwash containing anti-microbials that with prolonged use could help fight tooth decay.

He said: “The beauty of this design is the simplicity. All one may have to do is their routine oral hygiene procedure and then rinse with the formulation that we have developed.”

The active ingredient in the mouthwash binds to the surface of the teeth, slowly releasing anti-microbials to kill harmful bacteria that could lead to decay.

Elsewhere, Colgate has launched it new Sensitive Pro-Relief toothpaste to help stop the pain caused for sufferers of sensitive teeth.

The company claims its new Pro-Argin formula will fill pores in teeth leading to the nerves, thereby reducing sensitivity.

bad breathBritons should keep brushing their teeth to avoid halitosis under the mistletoe.

Britons planning to steal a kiss under the mistletoe this Christmas had best remember to brush their teeth twice daily, as bad breath could be a definite mood breaker.

Wales Online reported that if a regular oral health routine is not maintained, then problems such as halitosis and plaque build-up or gum disease can be the result, possibly leading to a trip to see the emergency dentist.

Therefore, people are advised to brush their teeth twice daily and also to use dental floss and mouthwash to ensure bacterial build-up and plaque are kept to a minimum.

Furthermore, individuals should book regular trips to the dentist for a check-up, while visiting a dental hygienist could help a person garner some good tips on how to improve their oral health.

Elsewhere, Dentist Dr Phil Stemmer recently told the Daily Mail that when brushing, people should use a small-headed toothbrush that can get into the gaps in and around the teeth to ensure all food debris is removed.
