Tooth implants 'more effective than root canals'

Friday, August 28th, 2009

Tooth implants could be a good option for people with teeth problemsTooth implants can be a more effective option than root canals for people suffering from gum disease, bone loss or decay, it has been asserted.

Speaking on behalf of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry (AAID), Dr John Minichetti noted there is no need to undergo numerous periodontic or endodontic procedures.

As well as being costly, he pointed out the process can be painful for patients.

From both a cosmetic and oral health perspective, preserving problematic teeth is not the most ideal choice, Dr Minichetti stated.

"Patients expect restorative dental procedures to make their smiles more attractive and long-lasting," he said.

"Implants deliver the best results, as the ultimate goal is to achieve an aesthetic and functional restoration for years to come."

The AAID pointed out patients of most ages can undergo the procedure, adding it should always be considered as an option to replace missing or failing teeth.

Compared to bridgework and endodontic treatment, dental implants are considered more predictable, according to the organisation.ADNFCR-2621-ID-19336866-ADNFCR

London lumineer treatment 'could be suitable for older patients'

Friday, August 28th, 2009

Older patients might like to consider lumineersLondon lumineer treatment might be an option for elderly people living in England’s capital.

This is because News Channel 8 explained the health of a smile can change over the years due to a number of factors.

Acids from food and beverages can attack the tooth surface and cause enamel loss.

Orange juice, sports drinks, fruit, yoghurt and salsa were all named as treats that can cause such damage to oral health.

"If left untreated, the result can be irreversible enamel loss," the news provider stated.

As a consequence, people may find they need to undergo oral health procedures, it added, going on to suggest veneers could be an option.

Lumineers are fixed into a patient’s mouth slightly differently to traditional veneers, explained Lumineers.com.

The website asserted pain is minimised because there is no drilling needed and they can last for over 20 years.

Another option for people who have found their pearly whites have discoloured over time from drinks such as coffee and red wine might be teeth whitening.ADNFCR-2621-ID-19336876-ADNFCR

Dentists 'can advise on suitability of teeth whitening'

Friday, August 28th, 2009

Teeth whitening options can be discussed with dentistPeople considering teeth whitening treatments in London might want to visit a dentist for advice, if the following comments are anything to go by.

Enamel darkens naturally over time and other factors such as smoking and consuming certain foods can also make it look dull, explained 5 News.

A visit to an oral health specialist can inform patients of whether they are suitable for teeth whitening, the website suggested, adding certain tooth or gum conditions may mean such a treatment is not advisable.

"If you’re a candidate for teeth whitening your dentist can tell you how much whitening you can expect and help you choose the best technique for your teeth," the online resource stated.

Because the procedure can temporarily make the mouth more sensitive, the news provider recommended individuals do not brush within half an hour of the procedure.

To maintain a pearly white smile, it concluded people should clean teeth after meals, snack on crunchy vegetables and visit a dental hygienist twice a year.

According to the British Dental Health Foundation, the effects of teeth whitening can last for up to three years.ADNFCR-2621-ID-19336885-ADNFCR
