Unbearable Toothache

Unbearable ToothacheThere may be times when people suffer from an unbearable toothache. When this is the case there is clearly an issue that needs fast dental assessment and treatment. When a toothache strikes Pearl Dental Clinic can help. During an emergency consultation, we will identify the problem and give effective treatment to ease the pain and tackle the root cause of the issue.

What could an unbearable toothache mean?

There are many reasons why your tooth could be causing you pain. All of which will need treatment from your dentist. Below is a list of the most common reasons for a toothache.

  1. Often, a toothache is due to a cavity, which is caused by dental decay. If bacteria are able to infiltrate the root of the tooth then an infection can occur. If this happens then you will need a root canal treatment to remove the infection. To help prevent tooth decay from forming in the first place you need to maintain good oral hygiene (daily brushing, flossing, and mouthwash) and cut down on sugary snacks and drinks.
  2. A toothache can also be caused by a dental abscess. Abscesses form due to infection and may need antibiotics or, in some extreme cases, a tooth extraction. This issue will need to be addressed as soon as possible as symptoms of an abscess can escalate quickly.
  3. A toothache could also be due to sensitivity. This is when the teeth are reactive to temperature changes due to exposed nerves. Sensitivity pain is often a sharp or throbbing pain after the teeth have come into contact with something hot or cold. There are desensitising toothpastes available to help with the issue. However, you should certainly see your dentist as well.
