There are different types of dental bridges available at Pearl Dental Clinic. Each one has different pros and cons to consider. A dental bridge is used to bridge the gap after tooth loss occurs. The bridge anchors onto the teeth at either side of the gap. For further imagery and information please see the dental bridge page on our website.
A conventional bridge is fitted and fixed to the neighbouring teeth like a dental crown. This means that the teeth at either side need drilling down so the crown bridge fits securely and looks natural. You can have this type of bridge made of ceramic, gold, or a mixture of the two. Usually, the expected lifespan for a conventional bridge is approximately ten to fifteen years.
The adhesive bridge differs to the conventional bridge due to how it is attached. Unlike the conventional bridge, the adhesive bridge does not require the neighbouring teeth to be drilled or shaved in the same quantity. It is likely that there will be little or no preparation needed to fix it. This type of bridge can also be made in ceramic, gold, or a mixture of the two.
With the cantilever bridge, only one tooth needs preparing and crowning. The other side of the bridge is bonded. The cantilever bridge can also be made of the same materials as above.
