Inspire ICE is the name of a crystal-clear type of bracket designed to become virtually invisible when placed against a tooth.
Unlike traditional ceramic brackets often used with braces, which are generally opaque and coloured to match particular teeth, Inspire ICE brackets are almost undetectable regardless of tooth shade.
According to orthodontic company Ormco, the product enjoys a unique position as the only completely transparent bracket currently on the market.
The California-based firm has described the appliance as "the only true aesthetic solution for all patients".
Devices such as Invisalign and Clearstep braces are also highly popular among dental patients, but Inspire ICE brackets are useful for those who have opted for traditional braces but would like them to be discrete.
They are designed for people who wish to straighten their teeth without seeing the process knock their confidence or hinder their active lifestyle.
Patients can also take comfort in the knowledge that the brackets will not stain or discolour over time, helping them to stay looking good for the duration of their treatment.
Other features of Inspire ICE include smooth, rounded edges for maximum comfort and the presence of Ormco's patented ball-base technology, which makes for a simplified debonding procedure to ensure they come off easily and consistently.
The company also claims the brackets are twice as resistant to breakage as other ceramic appliances, due to recent advances in heat-treatment technology.
According to Ormco, they boast a torque strength that is nearly three times that of other ceramic brackets and an ultra-smooth, heat-polished surface that reduces frictional resistance.
Inspire ICE brackets are fabricated with a boron tumbling process that creates a smooth surface and rounded facial contours, thereby making them more comfortable for patients.
They are also one of the lowest profile ceramic brackets on the market, meaning they do not stick out as far as other similar appliances.
"Whether your smile needs minor improvements or more extensive correction, Inspire ICE treats even the most challenging cases such as overbites, underbites and even crossbites with high-quality results," the official website for the product explains.
Ormco is also the company behind Insignia, the innovative system that uses 3D imaging technology to produce brackets and wires tailored to a patient's specific dental anatomy.
