Damon Braces

Although many adults may be uncomfortable with wearing traditional dental braces, the development of new Damon braces mean that teeth straightening results are achievable in a significantly shorter time period.

The Damon system uses low-friction mechanics to create a fast, orthodontic brace using a slide system to minimise friction and binding associated with more painful traditional fixed braces.

The low-friction mechanics ensure faster treatment times and less frequent trips to the dentist during the teeth straightening period. During the process, you may hear us mention ‘self-litigating’, which means the fixture is free of elastic or metal ties. The Damon system comes complete with a slide mechanism, which ensures faster results for patients.

What are the benefits of the Damon braces?

Damon braces can often achieve the desired results up to six months faster than traditional fixed braces. In addition, Damon braces are more hygienic than conventional train track braces that can often attract plaque, which increases the risk of a number of oral health issues such as gum disease and tooth decay.

The comfortable nature of Damon system is also an advantage for patients worried about the pain and discomfort associated with corrective procedures. Despite feeling almost unnoticeable, the fixtures are able to exert strong forces on even severely crooked teeth.

Damon braces are created using ceramics and stainless steel parts, making them less obvious to other people than traditional fixed braces. Unlike Invisalign aligners, Damon braces treatment includes the attachment of brackets to the front of the teeth so Damon braces are not as discreet as Invisalign. However, the advanced design of Damon system means they are able to be removed after a much shorter period of time than traditional fixed braces.

Additionally, the increased force offered by these braces can be used to treat more severe oral health issues such as overbites, underbites and crossbites. Some of these cases are too complex and can not be treated with Invisalign.

What does the Damon braces process entail?

An impression of the mouth will be taken to ensure the custom-fitted Damon braces are an exact match to your teeth. In order to make the process more comfortable, the Damon system uses strong adhesives to attach the brackets to the teeth.

Following the fitting of Damon braces

Some mild discomfort is perfectly normal following the fixture of the Damon system. As a result of the slide mechanism design of the brackets, this feeling will not be as severe as that brought on by conventional fixed braces.

Brushing teeth after every meal is highly recommended for people with dental braces, with the use of mouthwash allowing excess food to be washed away.

Patients will attend a number of follow-up appointments for our specialist orthodontist to tighten the braces and continue the teeth straightening process.

Alternative treatments to Damon braces

Invisalign can act as a solution for individuals with issues such as crowded or crooked teeth. Invisalign is almost invisible to the naked eye and can be removed during mealtimes to provide comfort for patients. However Invisalign can not correct some very complex orthodontic cases that Damon braces can correct.

Incognito Lingual braces are also available at Pearl dental clinic to correct crowded, spaced, rotated and misaligned teeth in a more discreet way than Damon clear braces. Although Lingual braces usually cost more than Damon braces.
